While most of us are ready to get out of the house, we’re not ready to stop social distancing. Luckily, Adams County, an Ohio county about an hour east of Cincinnati, is filled with activities and attractions that are ideal for social distancing. Its parks, nature preserves and driving tours make it an ideal for a day away from home.
For example the Quilt Barn Trail lets you explore Adams County without leaving your vehicle. It features 28 paintings of quilt squares on barns throughout the county. Visit the Adams County Travel & Visitors Bureau website to find where they’re located and create your own map.
With several state parks and nature preserves, Adams County is a great place for those who like to hike. The Chaparral Prairie State Nature Preserve has a .75 mile trail with interpretive signs that’s ideal for seeing summer prairie wildflowers. The Edge of Appalachia Preserve System is home to 24 miles of hiking trails that go through forests and prairies and range from easy to difficult. And the Buckeye Trail, a 1,444 trails that winds itself around Ohio, has sections of its trail in Adams County.
There are also plenty of places to fish in the county for those who have a valid state license. Shawnee State Forest, Tranquility Wildlife Area, Brush Creek State Forest and Adams Lake State Park all have lakes and streams perfect for fishing. But Adams County also allows public access to Brush Creek, which feeds into the Ohio River.
In addition to these activities, visitors to Adams County can also go birding, hunting and boating, giving families plenty of options for a day of social distancing.
