This New Year’s Eve, travel the world with a virtual event

Just because you’re staying home for New Year’s this year doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy celebrations of the New Year from across the country and the world. Many cities are putting their events online this year, making it easier than ever to celebrate the beginning of the New Year. Below are four events you can watch from the comfort of your own home.
Edinburgh, Scotland, is moving its typical New Year’s party, Hogmanay, online this year with a three-day virtual event. A new short film will premiere each day on Hogmanay’s website at 2 p.m. Eastern Time. The films will feature 150 LED drones in the skies of Scotland, with the drones forming words and symbols to create a spectacular show.
Las Vegas, Nevada, is kicking off the New Year with an explosion. At 2:45 a.m. Eastern Time on New Year’s Day, the Visit Las Vegas website will begin a livestream countdown to the New Year. The online event will feature a live DJ and end with an exploding 2020 sign.
Seattle will be lighting up the Space Needle to usher in 2021. Starting at 2:35 a.m. Eastern Time New Year’s Day, one can watch musical performances while waiting for it to be midnight on the West Coast. Once the countdown finishes, the Space Needle will come to life with digital effects and sky mapping technology. The event can be viewed on the Space Needle’s website.
Last but not least, you can still watch the ball drop in New York City’s Times Square when the clock strikes midnight. You can enjoy the live performances leading up to the drop on TV or online at Times Square’s website.
