Cool off at these water parks local in Wisconsin Dells
By Shadi Ahmad
Who would have thought that the water park capital of the world would be in Wisconsin? Wisconsin Dells, a city within Wisconsin, has the highest concentration of water park fun in one area. Spanning only 19.5 square miles in size, with a little over 5,500 permanent residents, the small city still finds room to house its multiple water parks and the 16 million gallons of water it takes to operate them.
With parks differing in size and thrill level, The Dells and its 200-plus waterslides are sure to have something the entire family can enjoy. Read on to learn more about five of the biggest water parks in the area.
Noah’s Ark
Noah’s Ark, at 70 acres, is the largest water park in the United States and visitors will have a tough time deciding where to start. The park features 50-plus waterslides and other attractions that are sure to entertain every member of the family for hours. There are two giant wave pools, four children’s water play areas, two lazy rivers, a 4D movie theater, surfing and even mini golf. Those looking for a thrill should try Scorpion’s Tail, America’s first near-vertical looping waterslide that drops riders from 10 stories high at more than 50 feet per second.
Wilderness Resort
From largest waterpark to largest waterpark resort in America, Wilderness Resort is a whopping 600 acres. The resort is home to not one, but four indoor waterparks and four outdoor waterparks. In addition to water activities, the resort has go-karts, rock walls, laser tag, mini golf, an arcade and plenty of dining options. When looking to take water activities outside, check out the dual Cubby’s outdoor water park for a relaxing view of Lake Delton, then take a stroll over to Lake Wilderness for its signature 13,000-square-foot “lazy lake.” The largest of all the parks, Lost World, features 3.2 acres of outdoor water entertainment. Try out the five-story, trap door-styled Lunar Loop and Cosmic Drop, which the resort warns isn’t for the faint of heart.
Chula Vista Resort
Like the Wilderness Resort, Chula Vista Resort & Waterpark also allows guests to have the best of both worlds with an indoor and outdoor water park. The resort has 200,000 square feet of water park with 26 different slides, plus an on-site spa, 18-hole golf course, mini-golf course, ziplining and a chophouse. Inside you will be able to explore its many attractions, such as drifting around the Mayan Ruins or speeding things up on the Flyan Mayan, an indoor water coaster. Outside enjoy the wave pool, adventure lagoon or just chill underneath a cabana.
Polynesian Water Park Resort
Like Chula Vista, Polynesian Water Park Resort has both an indoor and outdoor waterpark totaling 200,000 square feet. The 38,000-square-foot indoor park has two slides, Blackbeard’s Dark Tunnel lazy river and Kiki Kids paradise.
Mt. Olympus Waterpark & Theme Park
The last waterpark on our list is the total package when it comes to theme parks. The 200-acre theme park Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Park allows guests to choose from four different amusement and water park areas to explore. On rainy days, step inside for the twisting Anaconda Tube Slide or the Mayan Raging River. When things clear up, head outside and enjoy 9-foot waves at Poseidon’s Rage or challenge a friend to a race at Triton’s Challenge. Keep the thrills going at the outdoor amusement park as you twist and turn on the Hades 360 Coaster or head inside and enjoy a wide selection of arcade games and kiddie rides.
