Shawnee State Park, located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Scioto County, Ohio, is a perfect weekend getaway for those in Southwest Ohio.
Nestled in Southeastern Ohio, the park is surrounded by 63,000 acres of forest, which is a part of Shawnee State Forest. Whether you’re looking for a fun weekend at a cabin, backpacking or rustic camping, Shawnee State Park offers it all.
The park is home to more than 10 trails, as well as a 40-plus mile backpacking trail. The archery range is also good for family fun, although you do have to bring your own equipment. Two fully stocked lakes offer fishing opportunities, including an annual “trout derby.” The Black Bear Disc Golf Course offers campers an opportunity for some competitive fun. With two public beaches and a pool, swimming is always a great option to spend a hot afternoon. If you’d like to take a more adventurous route, Shawnee State Park offers six mountain biking trails!
Miniature golf is often a family favorite and, luckily, you can spend a few hours on the course while visiting Shawnee State Park. Rowboats, canoes, kayaks, pedal boats and stand-up paddle boards are available for rent. You can also bring your own boat if you have one.
For those of you who prefer “glamping” to rustic camping, Shawnee State Park offers cabins and a lodge as well.
