Kuttawa, Kentucky, has a variety of fall activities for the whole family

Kuttawa, Kentucky, was named after the Shawnee word for “beautiful,” which makes sense to locals and visitors alike within a few hours of arrival.
Those looking for a weekend away in the town of about 600 people can start out the trip by following the 2.5-mile winding pathway up Kuttawa Mountain and discovering a gorgeous view of Kuttawa and Lake Barkley.
“You may even spot bald eagles that nest in the area,” Justin Kimbro, executive director of Tourism at the Kuttawa Tourism Commission, says.
During your visit to Kuttawa, you can also explore the network of trails that thread through Silver Cliff Park and take a camping trip, whether in a tent or camper van.
“Bring a tent and sleep under the stars, surrounded by hundreds of trees and lush foliage in one of the local campgrounds,” Kimbro says.
Silver Cliff Park Beach is a hot spot in the summer, and you can take a dip in the lake or have a picnic at one of the park’s pavilions. In the fall, the leaves change color, and while it might be too cold for a dip, a fall picnic is always a good idea.
“Whether you’re making memories with your children or enjoying a romantic getaway with your spouse, you’ll find the right combination of relaxation and entertainment,” Kimbro says.
Lake Barkley is a great spot for fishing, kayaking and/or paddleboarding, and the neighboring hiking and walking trails are fit for all ages.
In the fall, Kuttawa becomes a bustling festival and event scene, with Live on the Lawn, an outdoor live music experience, and Oktoberfest. The event features tribute bands honoring many artists, from Prince to Elton John to Fleetwood Mac and more.
At this event, you can also sample over 100 different craft beers, Kentucky bourbons, wines and moonshines as part of the Annual Oktoberfest. Oktoberfest also boasts games, giveaways and artisan craft vendors.
Other annual events in Kuttawa include Kuttawa Days Annual Carnival & Food Truck Rodeo, a two-day carnival and food truck rodeo on Kuttawa’s beautiful beach that includes a pirate ship ride, a Ferris wheel for kids, merry-go-round swings, a rock wall, kayak races and so much more.
Though it’s a small town, Kuttawa has options for delicious food, including The Oasis Southwest Grill, Cluck’s Chicken and Buzzard Rock Café. There are also hotels, cabins and condos available to rent for the weekend.
As its website says, this small town can offer a big escape for those looking for a calm, picturesque weekend away.
