As states begin to open up, it’s hard to not think about travel again. It may be safer for now to stay home, but that doesn’t mean you can’t start looking. Lucky for us, many locations throughout the Midwest have been creating online content during this time. Read on to see the videos, virtual tours and more that can help you explore another city without leaving home.
Georgetown, Kentucky
Georgetown, Kentucky, is giving potential visitors a taste of the city with a plethora of videos and virtual tours that explore regional attractions, history and events. Some highlights include a video tour of the Toyota Manufacturing Plant, a video of last year’s Festival of the Horse and a virtual tour of the Old Friends Equestrian Retirement Center.
Gatlinburg, Tennessee
Gatlinburg, Tennessee, in addition to videos featuring nearby attractions, provides links to live webcams throughout the region. You can see a live feed from the top of the Gatlinburg Space Needle, Clingmans Dome in Great Smoky Mountains National Park and more.
Indianapolis, Indiana
Many attractions in Indianapolis are also moving some of their experiences online. The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is doing what it calls Museum at Home, which includes virtual events, Facebook LIVE presentations by museum experts, DIY Science, Storytime, virtual tours and more. The Indianapolis Colts has started a new video series featuring team mascot Blue and virtual cheer clinics led by the Colts Cheerleaders. And the Eiteljorg Museum, a Native American and Western art museum, has virtual video tours and instructions for crafts you can make at home.
Madison, Indiana
Madison, Indiana, has taken a different route for exploring its city from home. The city offers a virtual tour of Madison’s historic treasures that was created by a junior high class in 2018. The tour features a map, pictures and information about each historic location. Visit Madison has also created 25 virtual jigsaw puzzles with pictures taken throughout Madison. The puzzles can be completed on your computer or phone.
Toledo, Ohio
For those who love virtual tours, Toledo has plenty of options from which to choose. Visitors can take tours of the National Museum of the Great Lakes, Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral, the aquarium of the Toledo Zoo and the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library & Museums.
